Description
Troubleshooting Ansys applications can be hampered when it's difficult to locate the error outputs necessary to address the issue. This article will describe the regular locations for these error outputs for flagship/main Ansys applications, though this can never be an exhaustive list.
Solution
This table shows the default location for many standard error outputs, inspecting these files can provide detail on the errors being encountered:
| Application | Default error file(s) location(s) |
|---|---|
| CFX | .out, .stdout, .stderr files in the project folder/working direcotry |
| Fluent | .e, .o, .out, .trn (console output), fluent-#-error.log, cortexerror.log, debug.log folder in the project folder/working directory or remote working directory |
| Mechanical/Dyna | .err, .out, .log, .stdout, .stderr, .live, .rsmout in the project directory/working directory |
| RSM | RSM job logs from the job monitoring application (can right click in the log to add debug info), rsmlauncher/rsm_user/arcmaster/arcnode logs in /tmp (linux), C:\Windows\temp, %USER%, or %USERPROFILE%\APPDATA\local\temp directories |
| Electronics Desktop | .err in the project/working directory, debug_log folder and edtdebug.* files with debugging enabled |
