Description
This article will show you how to get Ansys up and running, using the Shared Web Licensing method.
Shared Web Licensing is a licensing service, hosted by Ansys, that does not require any local licensing sever. Ansys software connects over the internet to the license server. Licenses and user access is managed via the Licensing Portal.
Solution
Step #1 - Create & Assign Users and Groups
Required Access
By default, only your Account Support Coordinator (ASC) has access to create and assign users. If needed, your ASC can give you Administrator access using the steps below.
Shared Web Licensing uses group-based permissions model to assign licenses. This means that licenses are assigned to groups, not directly to users. This makes managing your licenses much more flexible. These steps are performed Via the Ansys Licensing Portal and the Ansys ID Portal.
- Login to the Ansys Licensing Portal
- Select Assignments > Manage Users and Groups. This will open the Ansys ID Portal.
- Click Add User > enter their information > click Add.
Note: Their email must be the same email they used to sign up for their Ansys Account.
- Click on Groups > Add Group > enter details > choose General type > click Add.
- We recommend creating a group called "All Users" that you put all users into.
- The type of group you choose has no impact. You can use them as a label if choose. (Ansys deprecated the functionality behind the private group, but left it in place.)
- Select the group you just created > select Members > select Add.
- Change user roles if necessary.
- Customer Administrator = Has the same administrator permissions as the ASC over the Ansys ID Portal.
- Member - Standard user who will need access to the software.
- You are now ready to assign Licenses to your groups.
Step #2 - Assign Licenses to Groups
- Login to the Ansys Licensing Portal
- Select Assignments.
- Click … next to the entitlement you want to assign and select Assign group to entitlement.
- Once all changes are made, click Save
Note
Once user groups are created and assigned licenses, you can choose to manage the licenses by entitlement or by user group.
Step #3 - Setup Ansys Client Software
All that's left to be done is for the user to configure specify their license server settings.
