ERROR - TD_Welcome is not responding (Thermal Desktop)

                          Authored by Heribert Colombo April 15th, 2026 22 views 0 likes KB3762038

                          ERROR

When launching AutoCAD 2024 with Thermal Desktop installed, AutoCAD opens normally and Thermal Desktop appears available.

However, the AutoCAD becomes unresponsive or crashes when using Thermal Desktop, including:

                          • Launching AutoCAD through the Thermal Desktop Launcher (for example, when running the Beer Can tutorial)
                          • Running any Thermal Desktop command inside AutoCAD
                          TD_Welcome is not responding
If you close the program, you might lose information

                          Close the program
Wait for the program to respond

Note: In some cases, AutoCAD may close without a clear error popup.

                          Software & Version

                          AutoCAD 2024 (v8)
                          Thermal Desktop 2025 R2

*This example was taken from this version but is not necessarily limited to this version.

                          Description/Cause

This issue occurs because AutoCAD and Thermal Desktop are using incompatible system files, which causes a conflict when Thermal Desktop is used within AutoCAD.

As a result, AutoCAD may launch successfully, but it will become unresponsive or crash when attempting to run Thermal Desktop features, such as commands or the Beer Can tutorial.

The cause(s)/solution(s) identified in this documented instance may not be the only possible cause(s)/solution(s).

                          Solution

                          Rename conflicting AutoCAD files

                          1. Ensure Ansys applications and AutoCAD are closed.
                          2. Navigate to the following folder: C:\Program Files\Autodesk\AutoCAD 20xx (Replace the xx for the autocad version installed)
                          3. Locate these files:
                            1. libcrypto-3-x64.dll
                            2. libssl-3-x64.dll
                          4. Rename the files as follow:
                            1. libcrypto-3-x64.dll → libcrypto-3-x64_AC20xx.dll (Replace the xx for the autocad version installed)
                            2. libssl-3-x64.dll → libssl-3-x64_AC20xx.dll (Replace the xx for the autocad version installed)
                          5. Launch AutoCAD again
                          6. Open a drawing and test a Thermal Desktop command
