Description
If you're running out of space on your C-Drive or maybe prefer to install applications on a different drive, you may be wondering if it's possible and supported to install Ansys on a secondary hard drive.
Solution
Can I install Ansys on a secondary hard drive?
Yes. Installing Ansys on a secondary local hard drive is supported.
Can I install different versions of Ansys on different hard drives?
Yes. While we recommend installing all versions on the same drive, if you have the choice, to reduce any unforeseen complexity, it is possible to install different versions on different drives.
This is possible because each version of Ansys is primarily a unique installation and does not upgrade or uninstall older versions. However, because Ansys installations do share some licensing settings and components the following guidance should be followed:
- Ansys Versions 2021R1 and Later - These versions can be installed in any order because they do not share the client licensing installation.
- Ansys versions 2020R2 and prior - When installing multiple versions of Ansys, the newest version should always be installed last. This is required because all versions share the same client licensing installation. If you install an older version after a newer version, the newer versions will not work properly.
